Do we judge books by their covers?

As librarians, it’s not unusual for us to suggest that people should judge a book by its cover. A well worn cover gives away a frequently read book; take a second look to see why. The subject of romance novels is clear from their covers: love; a man and woman gazing into each other’s eyes. If you read science-fiction, you’ve become familiar with the major illustrators for science fiction book covers, although maybe not their names. When Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight hit it big, smart publishers targeted her readers with covers like these:
